Introduction to GEPT Kids

GEPT Kids, a test specifically tailored to elementary students in Taiwan, has been developed by the Language Training and Testing Center (LTTC). Launched in 2015, the test takes into account the life experiences and local curriculum of elementary school students in Taiwan. The test booklet for GEPT Kids, illustrated in color, has been designed with full consideration for candidates’ psychological, physical, and cognitive development.
Rather than discrete points of English lexis, grammar, and pronunciation, the test assesses the overall abilities of understanding and communicating in basic English (CEFR A1 level). Results are reported in a way designed to provide positive encouragement to learners. All candidates receive diagnostic feedback on listening, reading, writing, and speaking, which can serve as a reference for future teaching and learning.

Key Features

The objective of GEPT Kids is to encourage learners to keep track of their learning process by taking part in a reliable English test. By doing this, children can set a learning goal for themselves, and adopt a responsible attitude toward their own learning.

GEPT Kids...

  • Takes children’s learning experiences and real-life language use domains into consideration. GEPT Kids has been tailor-made for students in Taiwan, so candidates can confidently demonstrate their English ability in context and topics with which they are familiar.
  • Is learning-oriented. Diagnostic feedback is provided so that candidates can have a clear picture of the strengths and weaknesses in terms of their English learning.
  • Takes the influence of candidates’ mother tongue into consideration. Mistakes easily made by local learners can be diagnosed effectively.
  • Is designed as a comprehensive assessment tool that tests all four language skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Candidates are provided with a fair chance to develop the four skills through their learning process.
